Social Responsibility

Topic: “The role of authentic corporate value systems in attracting talent, raising the value of the Architect in building viable communities and the link between long term profitability and leadership.”

Public perception is that corporations are logos not people:

Public perception is that corporations print their own money and are looking for new recruits:

For corporations, employees are becoming family.

Corporations today focus on employee retention:

Candidates are being more cautious before going to work for corporations and they look for:
  • compensation (will I get paid what I am worth?)
  • specialization (will I get better?)
  • retention (what's the turnover rate?)
  • benefits (what are the perks?)
  • written objectives (does the company know where they are going?)
  • quality leadership (will I have a great mentor?)

Corporations and Architects should:
  • build viable community (give back)
  • be engaged (get involved)
  • use and share knowledge and experiences in civic life
  • express values of society
  • enrich the human spirit
  • ensure livability for today and the future

Example of architecture that has impacted the Cincinnati area for decades and adapted to new uses.

Consequences of not giving back to the company or community:
Don’t destroy the vessel.
